The South African Football Association have shifted the blame for the failure to secure local broadcasts of Bafana Bafana’s fixtures in Zambia onto the host nation.

Bafana competed in the Four Nations tournament in Zambia over the last week but both their 1-1 draw against Angola on Wednesday and 2-0 victory over the hosts in the final were not broadcasted in South Africa.

The announcement that the first game would not be televised was made by Safa last week and was met by outrage on social media. The fans remained hopeful that the final would be available on South African screens but were disappointed yet again.

SAFA spokesperson Dominic Chimhavi has looked to distance Safa from the failure after it initially looked as if the games would be broadcasted on SABC.

‘We were not the host nation, so we expected Zambia to give the SABC the feed but they weren’t able to,’ Chimhavi told KickOff.com.

‘It was out of our hands, regardless of the agreements, which are not binding in the sense that the Zambian broadcasters said they don’t have production, then what can we do?’

‘What I’m saying is just that initially we were promised that we would get the feed but technical issues prevented that. We have to understand that there are challenges on the continent,’ he concluded.
