Percy Tau is adamant that Bafana Bafana can qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, provided they win all their remaining qualifiers.
South Africa occupy second position in the group standings, equal on points with table-toppers Libya, but Stuart Baxter’s men have an inferior goal difference.
Bafana do duty against Seychelles on Saturday and Tau has revealed his desire to take part in next year’s continental showdown with Bafana.
‘We still have about four matches remaining to be played. We are second on the log as we speak,’ he told reporters.
‘The only thing that is left for us to do is win our remaining matches. And that is what this team wants. We want to qualify for next year’s Afcon. We have what it takes to qualify,’ he added.
Baxter backed Tau’s sentiments, saying that nerves are the biggest factor that affect the team’s performance.
‘If you manage those things well, then you will be able to get the kind of performance you are looking for in game situations. You have got to keep on working on it,’ Baxter said.
‘We are now pushing for more younger and exciting players as compared to the more established ones.
‘We are not going to underestimate our opponents because we have done it many times before in the past. We want to approach the matches in a professional manner and make sure that we do well,’ he concluded.
The two sides do duty at the FNB Stadium with kick-off at 3pm.
