Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu says he is ‘very angry’ at his recent national team snub, adding that coach Molefi Ntseki did not explain the reason for dropping him.

Zungu, who currently plies his trade at French Ligue 1 side Amiens SC, was left out of Ntseki’s squad for the back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to be played at the end of March.

Zungu has been one of Bafana’s shinning lights in recent years and played through the pain during an impressive Afcon 2019 campaign, where he formed a vital part of Stuart Baxter’s side scoring two of Bafana’s three goals en route to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man feels he has finally reached his top form following his injuries over recent seasons, and was thus angry and hurt to be left out of the squad with no explanation.

‘No. No, he [Ntseki] didn’t [explain the snub] and that’s OK… guys, you know my manager, my family, asked me not to be open about the situation with Bafana on social media and stuff. But what I can say is, I am very angry,’ said Zungu on social media as per Phakaaathi.

‘I will speak in IsiZulu because my manager will not understand what I say. He will try to stop me just now. He will send me a message asking what am I doing now. But this issue has angered me. I am not OK.

‘I went to the [2019] Afcon carrying a knee injury and was in pain all [the time] because I love the national team. But I went and gave everything I have,’ Zungu added.

‘But today they don’t call me when I am on top form. He didn’t call me and that hit me in the heart, but it’s OK. It will be all right.’

With football across the world currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, it remains to be seen how Zungu and Ntseki will move forward when football resumes.
