Chippa United defender Diamond Thopola has been called up to coach Shakes Mashaba’s Bafana Bafana squad for their upcoming Afcon qualifier against Mauritania on Friday.

The South African national team will play Mauritania at the Mbombela Stadium as they bid to qualify for the latest edition of African tournament.

The 26-year-old right back has been called up as one of the replacements following the withdrawal of Ajax Cape Town duo Rivaldo Coetzee and Prince Nxumalo.

Thopola played a sterling role for Chippa United on Saturday as they brushed aside Platinum Stars to proceed to the semi-finals of the MTN8, reports the Chippa United website

Mashaba’s charges will then participate in the 22nd edition of the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Orlando Stadium on September 6.

The former Thanda Royal Zulu right back featured in 28 games in all competitions last season for the Chilli Boys and also helping them to their highest-ever finish in the Absa Premiership.

Kick-off has been set for 19:05.
