Watch as Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter and the South African U23 coach, David Notoane, who will oversee the Cosafa Cup team, unpack their selections for the upcoming period during which Bafana will be competing in the Cosafa Cup and the African Cup of Nations.
The South Africa national team are set to participate in the two tournaments over the break between club seasons, with the Cosafa Cup tournament taking place in Durban this month, while the Afcon gets under way in June in Egypt.
With the busy period coming up, Baxter and Notoane decided to name two separate squads for the Cosafa Cup and Afcon with a view to handing some youngsters the opportunity to compete in Cosafa’s international games, while the senior players prepare ahead of Bafana’s return to a major competition.
Baxter unpacked his thinking behind the naming of two separate squads, and how he plans to prepare for the Afcon, while he also delved into certain selections and omissions from his squad.
The Afcon squad will be trimmed down to just 23 players on the 10th of June.
Notoane also spoke to the media as he prepares to act as an extension of the senior squad in his duties with the Cosafa Cup squad, while also looking ahead to the SA U23 side’s Olympic qualifier later in the year.
