SAFA has confirmed that Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu will not feature in the first-leg of his sides must-win World Cup qualifier against Senegal on Friday.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man picked up a red card in South Africa’s win against Burkina Faso for his involvement in an off-the-ball scuffle. A FIFA Disciplinary Committee hearing was subsequently ensued, where the association confirmed the player’s suspension in addition to handing him a fine.
‘Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu will miss the first 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Senegal in Polokwane on Friday, 10 November 2017, but he will be available for the return leg against the same Senegal in Dakar four days later (Tuesday, 14 November 2017).
‘The France-based player was red-carded in South Africa’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso last month (7 October) at the FNB Stadium.
‘The matter was taken up by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee who decided against imposing a further ban on the midfielder – except to fine him an amount of CHF 5,000,” SAFA revealed on their official website.
