Banyana Banyana secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Senegal in their second international friendly played at the Stade Lat Dior on Tuesday evening.
Coach Desiree Ellis made changes to her starting line-up, with the likes of Kaylin Swart, Lebohang Ramalepe, Bambani Mbane, Motau and Cesane retaining their places in the squad.
This comes after Amogelang Motau’s stunning free kick in the 13th minute of play gave the team the lead. In the 43rd minute, Noxolo Cesane doubled the lead held by the Sasol-sponsored side.
At the interval, Ellis made two substitutions: Linda Motlhalo for Kholosa Biyana and Sibulele Holweni for Amogelang Motau. Senegal also made four changes in an attempt to alter the course of the match.
The match began with Thubelihle Shamase replacing Noxolo Cesane in the 62nd minute.
Goalkeeper Kaylin Swart was hurt, but Banyana kept up their offensive pressure and made the Senegalese return to their rough tactics. As a result, Sylla Coumba gave Banyana a red card in the 67th minute.
Swart was unable to finish the game, thus in the 72nd minute, Kebotseng Moletsane—who had just won her fourth official Banyana Banyana cap—replaced her.
In the 75th minute of the game, Dhlamini and Nokoane took the places of Ramalepe and Hadebe to see out the rest of the match.
“We played to our strengths today after looking at our errors in the first match, and that is how we managed to dominate the entire match. We are happy with the performance we saw today and will continue to build on it,” said Ellis.
