Scottish Women’s Premier League outfit Glasgow City have announced the signing of Banyana Banyana star Linda Motlhalo.

The attacking midfielder joins the Scottish side on a long term contract which would keep her at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 24-year-old joins the club from Swedish side Djurgårdens IF, where she found the back of the net on two occasions in 65 appearances across all competitions.

Motlhalo brings a wealth of experience having previously played for JVW FC, Houston Dash, Beijing BG Phoenix and most recently Djurgården.

On an international level, Motlhalo made her debut for Banyana at the age of 17 but has since established herself as a key figure in the squad, having already made 62 caps and scored 16 goals for the South African national team.

Motlhalo has already featured for South Africa at the Women’s World Cup in France 2019 and will be expected to form part of Desiree Ellis’ squad when they represent the country at the next World Cup in Australia/New Zealand this summer.

The South African international is eligible to be in the squad to face Rangers Scottish Women’s Premier League when the two teams square off at the Broadwood Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking on her to Glasgow City, Motlhalo said: “I am excited to have signed with Glasgow City.

“I am looking forward to new experiences and new adventures here and I look to develop further. I can’t wait to get this chapter started.”

Meanwhile, Interim Head Coach Leanne Ross said on her first signing: “I am excited to announce the signing of Linda Motlhalo here at Glasgow City.

“Linda arrives with a wealth of experience on her cv from her time in some of the top leagues in the world and her impressive international career with South Africa.

“I have no doubt a player of Linda’s experience and technical ability will enhance our already talented squad, she is an exciting attacking talent who I am very much looking forward to working with.”
