Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they have recalled defender Lorenzo Gordinho from his loan spell at Bloemfontein Celtic.

Gordinho moved to the Free State-based outfit in January after failing to cement a spot in the team under Steve Komphela. His stay at Celtic will, however, be cut short after Chiefs requested his return from Siwelele on Thursday.

Giovanni Solinas’ team have struggled in the Absa Premiership so far, only picking up two points from a possible nine, and fingers have been pointed at the Glamour Boys’ backline after they conceded in each of their three league fixtures.

Daniel Cardoso gave away a penalty in his side’s opening day 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns before scoring a dreadful own goal to Baroka.

Sandwiched between those two games, Amakhosi suffered an embarrassing 3-1 loss to Bidvest Wits at the FNB Stadium, with the centre-back pairing of Cardoso and Eric Mathoho once again coming under fire.

Gordinho, on the other hand, has impressed at Phunya Sele Sele by helping his side to clean sheets in both their opening fixtures.

Amakhosi’s team manager Bobby Motaung spoke to The Sowetan about the defender and said, ‘We want him back now because the coach sees potential in him, we can do with his services.

‘The player is also unhappy and he’s told us that. There’s instability there [at Celtic]. He’s supposed to get a salary from Celtic as per the loan agreement, but when it doesn’t happen, it reflects badly on us because he has a contract with us,’ Motaung added on the uncertainty at Celtic.

Celtic will have until the end of the transfer window deadline of 31 August to release the centre back to Chiefs.
