AB de Villiers has written of his excitement to get back into the thick of cricketing action in what promises to be an exciting eight months in the world’s cricket calendar.

‘Some people think I retired from all cricket. That was never the plan,’  he wrote on ESPNCricinfo. ‘I have been working hard in the gym and nets, and it’s all systems go. This exhilarating barrage of top-class cricket starts with the launch of the inaugural Mzansi Super League in South Africa later this week.’

De Villiers is especially excited about the MSL because, in his opinion, ‘anybody can beat anybody else’, but added that he naturally believes that his team, the Tshwane Spartans ‘have the right mix to be successful’.

He is also looking forward to the new Emirates T20 league as well as the BPL and the IPL, although he admits that it is a busy time ahead for players.

‘Who organised this schedule? It’s starting to feel like Formula One!’ joked De Villiers.

‘Just days after the BPL final is won and lost, the Pakistan Super League will start in Dubai, before moving to Pakistan for the knockout stages.

‘The IPL remains the biggest T20 tournament in the world, and I can’t wait to rejoin Virat Kohli and the rest of my teammates at Royal Challengers Bangalore, where we will all be working hard to erase the disappointments of 2018,’ added De Villiers, before offering his concluding thoughts on the stats of world cricket.

‘Has the game ever been in a healthier state? I doubt it.’
