South African batsman AB de Villiers has joined the Lahore Qalandars for the 2019 Pakistan Super League.

Tuesday’s player draft also saw the big-hitting Cameron Delport leave the Qalandars for Islamabad United. Proteas star JP Duminy was released by Islamabad earlier this month.

De Villiers and Delport are currently playing for the Tshwane Spartans and Paarl Rocks respectively in the inaugural Mzansi Super League. The former has represented the Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, while the latter played for the Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League and the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the Caribbean Premier League.

Derbyshire batsman Wayne Madsen, who was born in Durban and played first-class cricket for KwaZulu-Natal, was chosen by Peshawar Zalmi. Peshawar, too, announced that West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy will retain the captaincy, despite the recruitment of Pakistan veteran Misbah-ul-Haq.

The fourth edition of the PSL will be played in Dubai, Sharjah, Lahore and Karachi from 14 February to 17 March 2019.

Islambad United are the reigning champions. They also won the first tournament in 2016. Peshawar clinched the title in 2017.
