AB de Villiers and CSA will hold discussions in August over the way forward for his international future.

De Villiers has come under fire of late for making himself unavailable for Test matches, while captaining the ODI side when fit. There have been calls for the former Test skipper to make a call regarding his Test career one way or another, whether that means playing the longest format or hanging up his whites.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, a plan for his long-term future with the Proteas will be thrashed out.

‘We will see what works for both parties. We are not going to pick and choose games, but we are going to make a final decision about what happens for the next few years,’ De Villiers said.

The man affectionately known as ‘Mr 360’, has made no secret of the fact that his greatest ambition for the remainder of his international career is to help South Africa win an elusive first World Cup in 2019.

‘It’s my main dream to win a World Cup for South Africa or to be part of it in one way or another … I don’t even think it’s in my hands, what is going to happen. I will wait until the final decision on the coach and things like that are made. Then I can also have a chat to CSA, to see where I am going to fit in,’ he added.

De Villiers is expected to make a return to Tests for at least the home series against Bangladesh, but the future beyond that series is uncertain.

‘I am going to spend a bit of time off at home with the family, I’m going to welcome my new youngster into the world, and obviously look to stay fit. ‘I want to make sure I am ready for September, when Bangladesh come,’ he said.

The first Test against Bangladesh begins on 28 September.
