Hashim Amla may feature for a World XI side during a proposed three-match T20 tour of Pakistan later this year.

The Proteas batsman is one of a handful of big names said to possibly turn out for the composite side. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shahryar Khan cautioned, however, that while certain players have been linked with the World XI, nothing is set in stone just yet.

‘[I have] heard that Hashim Amla, Michael Clarke, along with New Zealander Luke Ronchi and Australian Tim Paine, are going to be part of the team,’ Khan was quoted as saying on Pakistan national television.

Though the tour is subject to security clearances, Khan is optimistic that the tour, which will regard matches as full ICC internationals, will go ahead.

‘I have spoken to [the government] but I’m waiting for a final word which I am hopeful to receiving in time so that we can make all [required] arrangements for the tour.’

International players have been reluctant to tour the troubled nation ever since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009. The final of the Pakistan Super League did take place in the country without incident earlier this year which may serve to calm fears over security.

Khan also announced that former England coach Andy Flower would oversee the team’s three T20 matches.

The tour is set to take place from 12 to 19 September.
