England have omitted James Anderson in one of three changes to their side for a must-win third Ashes Test against Australia at Headingley on Thursday.

Anderson and fellow fast bowler Josh Tongue have both been “rested,” according to a statement released by England on Wednesday. Mark Wood and Chris Woakes, who both bowl seam, have taken their places.

Also, England has brought back spin bowler and all-rounder Mooen Ali to try to keep the Ashes alive. They are 2-0 down in the five-Test series after losing by 43 runs at Lord’s last week.

He takes over for Ollie Pope, who hurt his shoulder at Lord’s and won’t be able to play for the rest of the season.

Harry Brook has now moved up to No. 3, where Pope used to be.

Anderson has taken more wickets than any other fast bowler in Test history with 688. However, the swing bowler has struggled so far in this series, taking only three wickets at more than 75 each.
