Temba Bavuma has labelled the Cape Cobras as his new home, after confirming his move from the Lions on social media on Thursday. 

The 26-year-old middle-order batsman will be returning to his province of birth after spending nine years with the Highveld Lions.

Bavuma took to Twitter and Instagram, announcing his move to the Cape-based side.

‘I can comfortably confirm I’m joining the Cobras Cricket family, I’m indebted and grateful to Gauteng Cricket and the Highveld Lions for support in my career development, I look forward to the new challenge and chapter in my life.’

He has played 106 first-class matches, scoring 5 584 runs @ 37.47 (12 centuries and 28 fifties). His last game for the Lions came on 24 February in the One Day Cup, where he scored  74 runs in a 27-run defeat to the Dolphins.

He will receive some game time on SA A’s tour to England, before playing for the Proteas in a four-match Test series in England, starting on 6 July.
