Proteas coach Mark Boucher says while Rilee Rossouw and Dewald Brevis’ names have come up at selection meetings, continuity will be key for the team going into the T20 World Cup.

Boucher was speaking upon the Proteas’ return to South Africa from India, where they drew the T20I series 2-2.

“We’re in quite a good position,” he said when asked if players like Rossouw and Brevis could be added to the squad at some stage. “We’ve got quite a lot of depth to choose from. You’ve got these players and their names certainly have come up in selection meetings, but I think I’ll leave [convenor of selectors] Victor [Mpitsang] to answer those selection questions as that’s his job.

“But certainly I think it’s good when different names start coming up, it shows a bit of depth in our system. Those names will certainly come into the mix.”

However, Boucher emphasised the importance of continuity in selection going into a World Cup.

“The previous World Cup showed how valuable it was,” he said.

“Unfortunately, there are only 11 cricketers in a team and only six batters that can play. In order to give opportunities, you’ve got to leave one or two guys out. The key is how to try to balance that and keep the continuity within the squad.”
