The Cape Cobras’ miserable season continued as they were beaten by 16 runs by the Titans in Durban.
The Cape side has won no four day matches, won two one-day matches and have are winless in this competition. They are a side in deep distress, evidenced by their inability to either close out matches from decent positions, or their stumbling efforts throughout their batting innings.
This happened in their opener on Friday, and repeated itself again on Sunday as they pursued a unimposing target of 149 for victory.
Dean Elgar (31 off 26), Sibenelo Makhanya (47 off 33) and Dayaam Galiem (20 off 18) were the Titans’ most notable contributors with the bat.
The Cobras After their Proteas Zubayr Hamza and Kyle Verreynne fell for five and two respectively, and they later found themselves at 54-4, the Cobras regrouped through George Linde and Jason Smith.
Linde looked dangerous, smashing three consecutive sixes off Titans star Tabraiz Smash, but he then got cleaned up by a yorker in the next over and things fell apart.
When Linder went out the Cobras needed 39 runs to win off the last three overs. They lost their four wickets for 22 runs, never threatening the Titans at any stage.
Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the Titans’ bowlers, finishing with 3-18 in his four overs.
