David Miller says he is looking forward to playing for Glamorgan alongside former Proteas teammate Colin Ingram.

The destructive Proteas middle-order batsman has signed a six-match deal to feature for the Welsh club in the T20 Blast.

Miller is no stranger to Cardiff, having played at Sophia Gardens for the Proteas in the Champions Trophy, as well as for Yorkshire during Finals Day back in 2012. While the 28-year-old admitted that the deal happened practically overnight, he’s looking forward to extending his cricketing CV with the side.

‘I already have a few good memories here. Finals Day was one of the special moments of my career and I’ve obviously played a couple of internationals games here and it’s got a good atmosphere, nice ground and facilities, so I really enjoy it here.

‘It all happened over three or four days so it happened pretty quickly. There were a lot of emails flying around back and forth between my manager and a few guys here while we put together a deal.’

This will provide an opportunity to share a dressing room with former Proteas teammate Ingram once again. Ingram had mixed fortunes in national colours, scoring a century on ODI debut and playing 31 further matches in which he averaged 32.42 for the Proteas, before signing a Kolpak contract with Glamorgan.

The top-order batsman has had a sensational season in the County Championship thus far, scoring 604 runs, including two centuries and a fifty at an average of 40.26 to top the club’s run charts.

He also scored two half-centuries and three tons in eight matches in the Royal London One Day Cup, en route to finishing top of the Glamorgan charts with 564 runs at a remarkable average of 70.50.

Ingram’s impressive run has not been affected by the transition to the T20 format either, where he has reached three-figures twice in five games as well as hitting 18 maximums, the most by any player in the tournament so far.

Miller, who also hits his fair share of sixes, poked fun at Ingram’s big-hitting prowess, but did commend him on his form with the bat of late.

‘He’s been doing exceptionally well in all formats and he’s a seriously good player. I played quite a bit with him in the early stage of my career for South Africa, and looking forward to playing alongside him again. He hits a few long balls, but I think I have him covered,’ Miller told Glamorgan’s website.

Miller’s debut against Essex was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Cardiff on Sunday.
