The Dolphins thrashed the Lions by 41 runs in Durban on Wednesday to strengthen their grip at the top of the CSA T20 Challenge log.

The victory means Keshav Maharaj’s charges are yet to taste defeat in the competition, which reaches its business end soon.

The spinner won the toss and elected to bat first with the talented Keegan Petersen making a strong start at the top of the order.

Despite losing the early wicket of Sarel Erwee, Petersen stood firm with a knock of 35 before David Miller upped the run rate towards the end of the innings.

The left-hander struck an unbeaten 56 to help the Dolphins post 151-4 in their 20 overs – with Khaya Zondo and Mangaliso Mosehle adding respective scores of 13 and 18.

The Dolphins bowlers immediately made inroads into the Lions’ batting attack, with Prenelan Subrayen and Robbie Frylinck picking up early wickets. Ryan Rickelton (1) and Temba Bavuma (11) failed to stick around.

Kerwin Mungroo dismissed the dangerous Reeza Hendricks for 14 before Rassie van der Dussen was caught and bowled by Subrayen for 33.

That proved to be the highest score by a Lions batsman as Subrayen, Frylinck, Maharaj and Ottniel Baartman chipped way with further breakthroughs.

Mungroo and Baartman wrapped up the tail with the wickets of Aaron Phangiso and Kagiso Rabada as the Lions were dismissed for 110.

Subrayen finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-18 in his four overs.
