India captain Virat Kohli has been fined 25% of his match fee for showing his frustration on the field. 

The ICC confirmed on Tuesday that the India captain was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.’

The offence occurred in the 25th over of South Africa’s second innings, following the brief rain delay, when Kohli continuously complained to umpire Michael Gough about the wet outfield saying that it was affecting the ball. When told to continue playing, he proceeded to throw the ball aggressively into the ground.

Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence after the day’s play and accepted Chris Broad’s ruling, so no formal hearing was needed. Broad forms part of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and in addition to the fine, Kohli was given one demerit point.

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Gough and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Richard Kettleborough and fourth umpire Allahudien Palekar.
