A powerful batting display saw the Kings XI Punjab race to an eight-wicket win over the Mumbai Indians at Chandigarh on Saturday, writes SIMON LEWIS.
Rohit Sharma blazed 32 runs off 18 balls (5×4, S/R 177.77) as the Indians raced to 51 at the start of the sixth over. Quinton de Kock continued the onslaught, lashing 60 runs off 39 balls, with six fours and two sixes (S/R 153.84).
Hardik Pandya (31 off 19, 3×4, 1×6, S/R 163.15) and Krunal Pandya (10 off five balls, 2×4, S/R 200.00) gave the innings extra impetus to take them to 176-7 off their 20 overs.
Murugan Ashwin (2-25, econ 6.25), Mohammed Shami (2-42, econ 10.50) and Hardus Viljoen (2-40, econ 10.00) weighed in with the ball for the Kings XI.
Chris Gayle dominated an opening stand of 53 off 7.2 overs with KL Rahul, Gayle falling first after scoring 40 off 24 balls (3×4, 4×6, S/R 166.66). Mayank Agarwal picked up where Gayle left off, lashing 43 runs off 21 balls (4×4, 2×6, S/R 204.76) before he fell in the 14th over with the score on 117.
KL Rahul upped the tempo to see his side through to the win, ending undefeated on 71 off 57 balls, with six fours and a six (S/R 124.56). David Miller finished not out on 15 off 10 balls, while Krunal Pandya put in the best shift with the ball, returning figures of 4-0-43-2 (econ 10.75).
