Shubman Gill scored 70* to help the Kolkata Knight Riders to a seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Gill and Eoin Morgan (41*) shared a 92-run partnership that eased the pressure on them after a shaky start, cruising to the victory target of 143.
The Sunrisers got to a competitive total on a wicket that made shotmaking challenging.
Their opener, David Warner, was uncharacteristically subdued, scoring 36 off 30 deliveries, sharing a third-wicket partnership with Manish Pandey, whose dogged 51 off 38 deliveries anchored the innings.
Pat Cummins was the pick of KKR’s bowlers, conceding just 19 runs in his four overs.
KKR’s experiment with Sunil Narine at the top of the innings failed, the West Indian out for a duck. Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik then fell in quick succession, leaving KKR struggling at 53-3.
But Gill and Morgan stayed composed, the Sunrisers having no answer to the England batters’ innovation, nor Gill’s ability to rotate strike.
