Sunrisers smash Capitals

The Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a formidable 219 to set up an 88-run victory over the Delhi Capitals.

Sunrisers openers David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha were absolutely brutal in their approach, sharing a 107-run stand in just a touch shy of 10 overs.

Warner’s 66 came off just 34 deliveries and featured eight fours and two sixes. Saha was equally destructive, scoring 87 off 45 deliveries while drilling 12 fours and two sixes.

The Capitals’ attack – spearheaded by South Africans Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje – had no answer to the openers’ skills and attacking intent. A tame wicket aided their cause and the ground is relatively small, but it would be remiss not to note the T20 batting masterclass in Dubai this evening.

The openers’ efforts were supported by Manish Pandey’s 44 off 31 deliveries, and considering the Sunrisers got only 44 runs in the last five overs, the total could have been record breaking.

Ultimately it was more than enough, as none of the Capitals’ key batters were able to mirror Warner and Saha’s contributions. That was thanks in large part to the incredible form of spinner Rashid Khan, who returned 4-7-2, his best figures in the tournament’s history.

The victory comes at a crucial time for the Sunrisers, who came into the fixture second last on the table and in desperate need of a W to keep their campaign alive.
