The first team to be eliminated from the inaugural Mzansi Super League, the Durban Heat, are still eager to show what they can do when they meet table-topping Cape Town Blitz in their penultimate clash of the MSL at Newlands on Sunday.

With just two away games left in their campaign, and the opportunity to put the cat among the semi-final pigeons, motivation levels are high in the Heat squad.

‘Obviously the Blitz are the team to beat in the competition and they are log leaders,’ said Albie Morkel. ‘There isn’t too much pressure on them with a home final almost sewn up, but there are a few teams chasing them and we could do them a favour on Sunday.’

It has been a disappointing tournament for the Durban side, but they will still push through to the final game of the inaugural edition of the competition.

‘We’ve got a decision to make now. We can either lie down and it can be a very dark end to the campaign, or we can try and win our last two games. It will still be a disappointing campaign, but we can try and finish with some pride,’ added Morkel.

The Heat are without the services of Vernon Philander, who has a hairline fracture in his left hand, an injury he suffered in the game against the NMB Giants. Philander will miss out on the remainder of the tournament.

The two sides met in Durban in the Heat’s first match of the campaign, where the Blitz managed to sneak over the line in the final over.

The match starts at 11am on Sunday morning.
