Reeza Hendricks struck a second consecutive century in the Mzansi Super League, as the Jozi Stars beat the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants by 81 runs at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.

Earlier this week, Hendricks struck the inaugural tournament’s first century – 104 not out against the Durban Heat at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Sunday yielded an enterprising 108 not out for the hard-hitting right-hander, who struck 10 fours and five sixes during a 62 delivery-stay.

His sterling performance powered the visitors to 173 for three, after which the hosts were limited to an insufficient 92 all out.

He was well supported by brisk cameos from opener Ryan Rickelton and middle-order duo Rassie van der Dussen and Dane Vilas.

The Giants’ chase was hampered by sound showing from seamers Dwaine Pretorius and Kagiso Rabada, who shared five key breakthroughs. Not one of the home XI scored more than tail-ender Aaron Phangiso’s 17.

The result pushed the Stars to third position in the six-team standings, while the Giants retained second spot behind the first-placed Cape Town Blitz.

Earlier in the day, captain Faf du Plessis’s commanding half-century spearheaded the Paarl Rocks to a nine-wicket triumph over the Durban Heat, who have all but been ruled out of contention for the play-off stage of the tournament.
