The Netherlands claimed a comfortable victory over Oman at the Harare Sports Club to keep their bid to qualify for the Cricket World Cup alive.
The Dutch, who have not participated in the global one-day championship since 2011, needed a victory to maintain their chances of qualifying for the tournament in India later this year.
Singh’s first one-day international century and Wesley Barresi’s 97 off 65 balls aided the Netherlands in scoring 362-7 in 48 overs after being asked to bat first in a rain-affected match.
Despite Ayaan Khan’s unbeaten 105, Oman never appeared likely to complete the run chase, finishing on 246-6 after 44 overs when play was stopped due to bad light.
The Netherlands’ 74-run victory margin on the DLS method in Harare increased their net run-rate, which could prove decisive.
The top two teams in the Super Six table qualify for the World Cup, with one spot still available after Sri Lanka qualified on Sunday by defeating Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe could secure second place with a win over Scotland on Tuesday, but a victory for the Scots would almost certainly set up a winner-take-all match between Scotland and the Netherlands on Thursday.
“Obviously some results that have to go our way. We cannot do anything about it. We will prepare for our next game,” said Dutch captain Scott Edwards.
The 10-team World Cup will be held between October 5 and November 19 this year.
Max O’Dowd scored 35 runs before being bowled by Ayaan. The Dutch were attempting to recover from a disappointing loss to Sri Lanka.
The entrance of Barresi accelerated the scoring, as the 39-year-old smashed 10 fours and three sixes before scoring 100 runs.
Singh scored 110 runs off 109 deliveries before being dismissed by Mohammad Nadeem.
“Amazing. I waited a long time for this, finally getting my maiden ODI hundred, feels unreal,” he said.
Bas de Leede scored 39 runs off 19 balls and Saqib Zulfiqar scored 33 runs off 17 as the Netherlands compiled a massive total.
Oman, who have yet to record a Super Six victory, were reduced to 78-3 before Ayaan’s resistance.
A strong Dutch bowling performance was exemplified by spinner Aryan Dutt’s 3-31 from 10 overs despite the fact that he was not out after facing only 92 balls.
On Wednesday, Oman will conclude their season against another eliminated team, the West Indies.
