New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl in the crunch World Cup game against the Proteas at Edgbaston.
The toss was delayed by more than an hour on Wednesday morning due to a wet outfield. The contest was reduced to 49 overs per side as a result.
The overcast conditions at Edgbaston factored into the decision to bowl first. Proteas captain Faf du Plessis confirmed that he would have preferred to bowl first.
Lungi Ngidi makes a timely return to the Proteas side after missing the recent games due to a hamstring injury. Beuran Hendricks makes way for the big fast bowler in the only change to the team that beat Afghanistan on Saturday.
