A berth in South Africa’s squad for the World Cup in the United Kingdom later this year remains toward the top of Anrich Nortje’s agenda, despite being sidelined by another injury.
Nortje impressed for the Cape Town Blitz late last year before sustaining an injury – and was ruled out of the remainder of the inaugural Mzansi Super League.
He recovered – and debuted in this month’s ODI series against Sri Lanka. The 25-year-old was scheduled to represent the Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing Indian Premier League, but has since sustained a shoulder injury.
‘I’ve been bowling the same way for a few seasons now with no injuries so the two I had recently is part of the game; it’s sport so injuries will occur,’ Nortje was quoted as saying by Times LIVE.
‘Yes‚ the World Cup squad is something big‚ but I’m just trying to focus on getting back to full fitness and to try and be better and stronger when I get back.
‘With some extra strength work and one or two technical corrections I would like to hit 150 kilometres per hour in most of my games when I get back and improve one or two things from a skills point of view as well.
‘So for now I’m focused on how I can improve and not too much on what others control.’
Fellow fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, too, has been sidelined by injury. He hurt his knee prior to joining the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
