The Momentum Proteas secured an impressive 10-wicket victory against Bangladesh at Newlands Stadium to book their place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals.

All positions in the semifinals have been determined, with South Africa facing England on Friday at Newlands and Australia facing India on Thursday.

Laura Wolvaardt and Taymin Brits played a conservative inning as they shared an unbeaten 117-run partnership while chasing 114 to win.

After ten overs, South Africa’s score was 43-0, and the Proteas duo was desperate to get going, eventually scoring a few boundaries.

However, they quickly began to pummel the Bangladesh attack as both batters reached fifty runs.

Wolvaardt scored 66 off of 56 balls, including seven fours and a six.

The British scored 50 off 51 balls, including four fours, as South Africa crossed the finish line with 13 balls remaining.

Earlier, Nigar Sultana led Bangladesh with 30 runs as they posted 113-4 in 20 overs.

After electing to bat first, the Proteas’ pace attack struck early when all-rounder Marizanne Kapp induced opener Murshida Khatun to slap the ball to cover, where it was easily caught by Nadine de Klerk.

Fast bowler Shabnim Ismail bowled short, and Shamima Sultana attempted to pull but received a top edge and was dismissed for 11 runs.

Sobhana Mostary and Nigar Sultana combined for 33 runs before Nonkululeko Mlaba made the crucial breakthrough.

Mostary returned to the dugout before being bowled for 27 off 30 balls (hitting two fours).

Ayabonga Khaka, a seamer, entered the attack and bowled Shorna Akter out for 11 runs.

Bangladesh’s captain Sultana scored 30 runs off 34 balls before attempting a sweep and being bowled by Kapp (2-17).

Hope appeared to be lost for the tourists as the Proteas dropped a few sitters and gave away too many overthrows.

As Fargana Hoque walked down the track, Khaka (2-21) bowled Fargana Hoque for seven.
