Marizanne Kapp and debutant Tumi Sekhukhune proved too powerful for the West Indies Women in the first ODI of the series at Bridgetown, Barbados.
Facing a target of 202 for victory at Bridgetown, the West Indies got off to a similar start to the Proteas Women, with Kapp removing Hayley Matthews for a second-ball duck in the first over. Sekhukhune followed up with the key wickets of Stafanie Taylor (6) and Chedean Nation (10) to leave the West Indies 45-3 in the 15th over.
Kycia Knight was caught and bowled by Dane van Niekerk after scoring a patient 23 off 57 balls as the West Indies slumped to 54-5. Shemaine Campbelle (46 off 71 balls), Deandra Dottin (19) and Anisa Mohammed (23) knuckled down to add valuable runs to stay in the hunt, but the strong Proteas bowling line-up ensured that the target was beyond them as they were bowled out for 161 in 46 overs.
Dane van Niekerk was as efficient as ever with the ball, registering figures of 10-2-31-1 (econ 3.10), but the stars of the innings were Kapp (9-2-14-3, econ 1.55), Sekhukhune (6-0-28-2, econ 4.66) and Zintle Mali (3-0-11-2, econ 3.66).

The second ODI starts on Wednesday 19 September at 3:30 PM SAST, at Bridgetown, and the final match in the series is also at Bridgetown on Saturday 22 September, starting at 8:00 PM SAST.
