AB de Villiers’ performance in the Proteas’ 3-2 series win over New Zealand has pushed him to the summit of the ODI rankings.
The Proteas captain top-scored against the Black Caps with 262 runs at an average of 87.33, which included two half-centuries. As a result, he gained a rating of 875 to replace David Warner (871). Virat Kohli remains in third with 852 points.
This is the 10th time that De Villiers has gained the No 1 ranking after achieving the accolade for the first time in May 2010. The 33-year-old has also never been ranked out of the top five since September 2009.
The ODI bowler rankings is still dominated by Imran Tahir (750) who is 50 points clear of second-placed Sunil Narine (700). Kagiso Rabada (686) has also made significant gains on the rankings, after taking eight wickets in four matches against the Black Caps. He breaks into the top five by going two points clear of Josh Hazlewood, who has a rating of 684.
The Proteas (119) are also the No 1 ranked team after their series win against New Zealand, and are one point above Australia (118) in second.
