Hashim Amla says he is feeling ‘fit and good’, but will only make a decision on his international future after the World Cup.

The Proteas have one final pool game still remaining, against Australia this Saturday, before heading home after failing to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.

There has been plenty of speculation that it could also signal the end of the road for a number of season veterans in the Proteas side, Amla included.

However, after scoring an unbeaten 80 runs in a convincing win over Sri Lanka on Friday, Amla offered a straight bat to any questions around his future in the game.

‘I don’t know. Once the World Cup is done, I’ll get home and chill with the family. I’m feeling good, I’m feeling fit,’ he commented.

Although Amla has in fact averaged just over 40 at the World Cup (thanks largely to a couple of unbeaten knocks), his strike rate sits at a lowly 64.85.

He suggested it was all just part of the game.

‘Sometimes it might be a bit slower. Coming into this competition there was all this talk about 350 scores, and if you look around it hasn’t really materialised that way.

‘You’ve got to play each game and wicket how you can, and I use my experience to play accordingly.

‘It’s about fitting into the team. Not everyone is going to be scoring at 150 strike rate. It’s about the team and if you play your part, then hopefully things work out and unfortunately early in the competition we didn’t get those scores that we could defend properly.’
