South African captain Temba Bavuma remains sidelined as the Proteas won the toss and elected to bat first against Bangladesh in their Cricket World Cup encounter in Mumbai.

A Proteas spokeswoman said Bavuma still hadn’t fully recovered from the stomach problem that got him out of the game just before South Africa beat England by 229 runs in Mumbai on Saturday.

Because Bavuma was still not there, Reeza Hendricks kept his spot after scoring 85 against the world champions after being called up late.

South Africa made one change when paceman Lungi Ngidi got hurt and couldn’t play. Lizaad Williams came in for Lungi Ngidi and made his World Cup debut in just his second one-day international.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, was ruled fit after hurting his thigh. The star all-rounder replaced Towhid Hridoy as the only change to the Tigers team that lost to India last time out.

It was easy for Markram to decide to bat first in the hot weather because England had had a hard time in the conditions, which drained their energy. Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa’s century-maker, said it felt like he was “batting in a sauna.”

With a win over England, South Africa, who had lost their first game to a non-Test team, got their World Cup campaign back on track. They have now won three of their four games.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, has lost three of its four games, and another loss could end its chances of making it to the semifinals.

But they have won three of the last four one-day internationals they’ve played against South Africa.
