Wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock isn’t too fazed by the addition of the Proteas captaincy for this month’s T20I series against India.

De Kock has been handed the formal leadership in the absence of regular skipper Faf du Plessis, who will return for next month’s Test series against the Indians.

Whether the additional responsibility will positively or negatively affect the hard-hitting left-hander’s primary role with the bat remains in the balance.

‘I’m not too concerned. I regard the captaincy as another stepping stone in my career. It gives me an extra bit of responsibility,’ said De Kock on Tuesday.

‘We’ll see how it goes. It can obviously affect me. I’m unsure how it’s going to affect me. I’m still hoping to do the best I can.’

The 26-year-old will lead a squad minus the experienced Hashim Amla and JP Duminy, who retired from international cricket after the World Cup this year. Former captain AB de Villiers’ Proteas career ended last year.

‘Those guys gave me lots of room to play the way I want. I don’t see why that would change with them here or not. In their careers, they also had to go through the same growing pains as we’re expecting to experience a bit at the moment. I’ll take it as it comes. We’ve had discussions, but we acknowledge we’re a young leadership group,’  added De Kock.

Sunday’s first T20I in Dharamsala was washed out without a delivery bowled. Mohali will host the second T20I on Wednesday.
