Captain JP Duminy praised South Africa’s ability to recover from a shaky performance in the opening T20I to complete a three-nil series whitewash over Sri Lanka on Sunday.

The Proteas required a super over to win at Newlands in Cape Town, but were far more convincing in victories at SuperSport Park in Centurion and the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Brisk half-centuries from opener Reeza Hendricks and all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, followed by a key four-wicket haul from seamer Andile Phehlukwayo were instrumental in Sunday’s rain-affected victory at the Wanderers.

‘It is certainly is pleasing to win three-nil. It was nice to get over the line in the first game. We didn’t execute that well in the first game. Here, we probably set the game up in the first 10 overs and exploded in the last 10. Individuals have stood up and stepped up to the plate at the highest level,’ said Duminy, who deputised for regular captain Faf du Plessis.

The veteran Duminy recently returned to international competition after a stint on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury. He, alongside several other Proteas stars, will return to franchise cricket in a bid to secure berths in South Africa’s World Cup squad in the United Kingdom later this year.

‘It is a confidence booster as far as the shoulder is concerned. It is important to have a good support staff around you. We still got a couple of weeks of domestic cricket left before the World Cup. You always want to perform the best for your country,’ concluded Duminy.
