Cricket South Africa has confirmed that both JP Duminy and Wiaan Mulder will face a three-month injury lay-off.
Mulder is recovering from ankle surgery while Duminy had a successful shoulder operation last week.
Both players are expected to have a three-month recovery period.
Hashim Amla, who missed the Zimbabwe series due to a finger injury, will miss the Australia tour but is on the road to recovery, and will be available to play in the Mzansi Super League for the Durban Heat.
The Proteas have opted out of like-for-like replacements for the three omitted players and have instead called up Chris Morris, Farhaan Behardien and Dwaine Pretorius to the 15-man squad.
