Robbie Frylinck has received a T20 call-up for the two-match series against Bangladesh, while Wiaan Mulder will replace Wayne Parnell in the ODI squad.
CSA announced their T20 squad on Tuesday, with Dolphins all-rounder Frylinck named as a new cap in the Proteas T20 International squad for the series which will be played next week.
‘The selection of Robbie provides another opportunity to explore our depth in the important all-rounder position,’ said CSA National Selection Panel Convener Linda Zondi. ‘Apart from his bowling strength, he has a proven record as a finisher with the bat.’
Zondi also said that Imran Tahir would be rested. ‘Imran remains our first-choice spinner in both the limited overs formats but we also need to develop depth in this important area which is why we have given further opportunities to Tabraiz Shamsi and Aaron Phangiso.’
Faf du Plessis resumes the captaincy after missing the series in England while the selectors have also decided to rest Kagiso Rabada, who has been playing non-stop cricket for the Proteas for an extended period of time.
Parnell, who has been ruled out of the ODI series due to injury, could not be considered for the T20 side. He will be replaced by Frylinck in the T20 side and by 19-year-old all-rounder Mulder in the ODI squad.
Mulder has been in good form recently in the Sunfoil Series for the Lions, scoring 79, 127* and 70* in his last three games for his franchise. He was called up to the CSA XI who took on Bangladesh in a 50-over warm-up match prior to the first ODI.
