Former all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been named as the Proteas’ batting consultant for the rest of the 2019-20 season.

Kallis played 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 250 T20Is between 1995 and 2014 before forging a coaching career.

He was the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders for several years and left that role earlier this year.

‘Kallis has been named as the team’s batting consultant for the duration of the summer. He will join the squad for their camp starting in Pretoria on Wednesday,’ read a statement from Cricket South Africa.

‘The South African team assembles to begin preparation for a full home tour against England. The nearly nine-week affair will include a four-match Test, three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.’

Former wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher was announced as the Proteas head coach last week. His colleague is former teammate Graeme Smith, who has accepted Cricket South Africa’s director of cricket role in an acting capacity.

Former Proteas seamer Charl Langeveldt, meanwhile, is on the brink of rejoining the coaching staff. Langeveldt worked with the Proteas as a bowling coach before joining Bangladesh. He resigned from the Bangladesh role this week.

The Proteas squad for the first half of the four-Test series against England includes six uncapped players – all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, batsmen Rassie van der Dussen and Pieter Malan, seamers Beuran Hendricks and Dane Paterson and wicketkeeper Rudi Second.
