Charl Langeveldt says that he has come to terms with being ousted as Proteas bowling coach. 

Ottis Gibson announced on Monday that he will be making a few changes to his backroom staff. One of those was that he would be occupying the role as bowling coach.

Talking to the TimesLive website, Langeveldt says he has accepted Gibson’s decision to axe him.

‘That’s how international cricket is; you’ve got a job one day and the next day you’re fired,’ said Langeveldt.

‘But I understand. You can’t have two bowling coaches and that is Ottis’ speciality. Ottis has asked me to stay in the system‚ but let’s see if they’ve got the funds.’

The 42-year-old was brought in after the Proteas’ semi-final defeat against New Zealand in the 2015 World Cup, and according to him, the Proteas bowlers have added more skill and variation to their arsenal since.

‘That was our biggest department in which we were lacking‚’ he said.’We worked hard on that and now you have a guy like Andile [Phehlukwayo] bowling back-of-the-hand slower balls.

‘The skill levels and the death bowling‚ the last few years‚ have been outstanding. There’ve been ups and downs‚ but mostly ups.’

Gibson’s next assignment will be against India when they tour South Africa in January-February.
