David Miller, the Proteas’ top-scorer in the second ODI against Australia at Adelaide, told the press of his side’s disappointment at not being able to finish the match off successfully against Australia.

‘It was a really good wicket. There was a bit in it for the bowlers and batters – it was a good cricket wicket and obviously very disappointed (to have lost the match),’ said Miller after the match.

‘I was actually just being patient towards the back end – I was just waiting for the right time at the back end to see off Starc and Hazelwood and the main bowlers, (but) obviously it didn’t work out well for us. I think we’ve got a lot to learn from that.

‘We were in quite a lot of trouble there at 60-4 and I really enjoy those kinds of moments when the team is in trouble (and) just trying to get the boys out of where we were. If we look back we should have just extended that partnership (between Miller and Faf du Plessis) below 50 runs and finish the game off.

‘They did bowl really well but it was a good cricket wicket so you could just play good cricket shots and rotate the strike. I thought we had it under control,’ admitted Miller.

Looking ahead to the series decider on Sunday at Hobart, Miller highlighted that, as always, any match between South Africa and Australia will always be competitive.

‘We don’t want to take anything for granted, so we’re going to travel to the next destination and start fresh again – looking to finish off the series there strongly.
