All-rounder Wiaan Mulder has been added to South Africa’s squad, ahead of the fifth and final ODI against Pakistan at Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday.
Mulder recently returned from an ankle injury – and took 10 wickets in three 4-Day Franchise Series fixtures for the Lions through January. He also struck a superb 146 against the Knights in Bloemfontein last week.
The five-match series is squared two-all. The hosts won in Centurion and Durban – and the tourists in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
Last week also saw the 20-year-old Mulder named in the squad for next month’s three T20Is against the Pakistanis. The uncapped Lutho Sipamla and wicketkeeper-batsman Gihahn Cloete were also included.
‘Lutho made a very good impression in the Mzansi Super League which is making a big contribution to our talent pipeline in helping to bridge the gap between franchise and international cricket,’ said convener of selectors Linda Zondi.
‘We will be giving Gihahn the opportunity to keep wicket as part of our strategy to build up the depth in the wicketkeeping position to back-up Quinton de Kock with both Gihahn and Heinrich Klaasen capable of holding down positions as specialist batsmen.’
