The Proteas have won the toss and have elected to bat first against Sri Lanka in the one-off T20I in Colombo.

The Proteas face a difficult task in Colombo, as they hope to leave Sri Lanka with their heads held high.

Key to the Proteas’ success will be an improved batting performance. Their last match against Sri Lanka in the fifth ODI saw the Proteas bowled out for 121 with Quinton de Kock’s half-century the only performance that held their innings together. Their bowling was also not as effective, as they struggled to bowl out the hosts and conceded 299 runs in their 50 overs.

Sri Lanka showed their big-hitting prowess in the fourth ODI when they hit 305 in their 39 overs.

The Proteas made three changes from their side’s ODI defeat on Sunday. Aiden Markram has been dropped for David Miller, while Lungi Ngidi comes in for Wiaan Mulder and Tabraiz Shamsi replaces Keshav Maharaj.

Sri Lanka welcome back skipper Dinesh Chandimal, who has just served a lengthy ban, although Angelo Mathews retains the captain’s armband.
