Kagiso Rabada picked up six awards at the CSA Awards for the second time, which included the highest honour of South African Cricketer of the year. 

Rabada made history in Sandton on Saturday, becoming the only player to have picked up six awards twice. This comes after he became the first player to pick up six awards in 2016.

This is also his second Cricketer of the Year Award after picking it up in 2016 and joins the list of Jacques Kallis (2004 and 2011), Makhaya Ntini (2005 and 2006), Hashim Amla (2010 and 2013) and AB de Villiers (2014 and 2015).

Other winners of the award were Shaun Pollock (2007), Dale Steyn (2008), Graeme Smith (2009), Vernon Philander (2012) and Quinton de Kock (2017).

No one has ever won more than five awards and for the second time, amongst bagging the biggest honour, Rabada also picked up: Test Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year, SA Players’ Player of the Year and SA Fans Player of the Year. He also won the award for the RAM Delivery of the Year when he dismissed David Warner in the third Test between the Proteas and Australia at Newlands in March.

The 22-year-old had a phenomenal season. He rose to the No 1 ranking in the world in Test cricket by breaking the 900-point barrier and is currently the leading wicket-taker in the 2018 calendar year with 38 dismissals at an average of 19.65. He was also selected in the 2017 Team of the Year.

It was almost a clean sweep for Rabada, who missed out to AB de Villiers for the T20 International Player of the Year award and the KFC Colonel’s Always Original Award that went to David Miller for his world record T20I ton against Bangladesh.
