Jacques Rudolph scored a century for Glamorgan in the One Day Cup on Thursday evening, surpassing 10 000 List A runs as a result.
Only a week before his 36th birthday, the former Proteas batsman put on a masterclass at the top of the order as he hit 121 runs off 143 balls during an innings that featured 10 fours and two sixes.
It was his 18th List A century to date and his first of the current English season. The 48-Test former Protea also has six hundreds and 11 fifties to his credit at an average of 35.43.
Rudolph reached the iconic 10 000-run milestone with a single off the bowling of Liam Norwell at the start of the 11th over, as he led his side to 277-7 in 50 overs and an eventual 18-run victory over Gloucestershire to begin their One Day Cup campaign.
Colin Ingram also starred in the match, sharing an 89-run stand with Rudolph to score 45 from 54 balls before he was run out by compatriot Graeme van Buuren. Van Buuren scored 51 for Gloucestershire, but it wasn’t enough to help his side over the line, as Ingram had the last laugh to trap him lbw. His part-time leg-spin produced three wickets for Ingram (3-39), while Marchant de Lange also contributed to his side’s cause with 2-42 from nine overs.
Wayne Parnell‘s One Day Cup bow didn’t end they way he would have liked, as Hampshire beat Kent by six wickets. Parnell, coming in at No 7, only scored three. He sought redemption with the ball and saw off Michael Carberry with his second ball, but ended up with figures of 1-65.
Stephen Cook made his 50-over debut for Durham, but with rain pouring across the UK, Chester-le-Street proved to take the biggest hit, and the match was abandoned 34 overs into the hosts’ innings. Cook scored 18 off 26, while his opening partner Keaton Jennings scored an impressive 79 off 72.
