The South African Legends team easily saw off the West Indies Legends by 6 wickets in their Road Safety World Series match in Mumbai on Wednesday, writes ANDRE HUISAMEN.

The islanders batted first in the 20-over clash with a team that featured stars like Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Carl Hooper but couldn’t properly exploit their attacking power and slumped to 143-8.

Great bowling by former Proteas spinner Paul Harris restricted the West Indies with three wickets, while Albie Morkel also contributed two scalps.

The South African chase got off to a very poor start, though, as they fell to 42-4 with Herschelle Gibbs, Morné Morkel, Jacques Rudolph and Martin van Jaarsveld all departing fairly cheaply.

Captain Jonty Rhodes and Morkel steadied the ship, however, with a century stand to lead South Africa to victory.

Both reached their half-centuries in the process with Morkel rolling back the years with a couple of big strikes over the boundary.

South Africa will next face the Sri Lankan Legends team on Friday.
