Afghan international Sediqullah Atal smashed an impressive 48 runs off one over in a Kabul Premier League Twenty20 match.
Chris Gayle scored 37 runs off of a T20 over in the Indian Premier League in 2011, but Atal surpassed that by five. Cricinfo, which is regarded as the definitive record keeper, has an entry for the most runs scored off of a T20 over for the Indian Premier League.
The assault occurred while the Shaheen Hunters were competing against the Abasin Defenders at Kabul’s Ayobi Cricket Stadium in the domestic Twenty20 tournament.
Atal, a 21-year-old all-rounder with one T20 international cap, was on 76 and his team was 158 for six when spinner Amir Zazai bowled his first ball of the nineteenth over.
At that point, Zazai had conceded 35 runs for one wicket in three overs, but Atal hit him for six after he overstepped the crease.
The following ball was a wide, which went through the keeper for four byes, meaning that Zazai’s first two deliveries cost 12 runs, and he still had six balls to bowl.
Atal dispatched each of them over the boundary ropes in an astounding display of power hitting as he reached 118 not out off 56 balls.
It is the inaugural season of the Kabul Premier League, and there were only a handful of spectators at the stadium to witness the feat, but it was captured on video and is now circulating on social media.
“Unbelievable performance,” the commentator bellows as Atal completes the task.
Shaheen Hunters ended their innings with 213 for six, while Abasin Defenders were bowled out for 182 in response.
