Dewald Brevis played a starring role to lead South Africa A to a four-wicket win against Sri Lanka A in the first 50-over match in Pallekele.
The 20-year-old batted at No. 7 and hit 98* off 71 balls (six fours and seven sixes) as the visitors reached their goal of 265 in the 42nd over. Beyers Swanepoel helped him out a lot. He scored 43* off of 28 balls.
Swanepoel joined Brevis at the crease when the score was 155-6 and the team was in trouble. Captain Tony de Zorzi (35 off 43 balls) and Keegan Petersen (42 off 39 balls) had gotten the run chase off to a good start.
Earlier, Sri Lanka A scored 264-8. Opener Nishan Madushka’s 68 and No. 7 Janith Liyanage’s 76 helped them get there.
In eight overs, Lutho Sipamla got 3-33, meanwhile, the second game of the one-day series will be played on Tuesday.
