Sri Lanka have dropped former captain Angelo Mathews from their 15-member squad for their World Cup qualifying matches in Zimbabwe.
Mathews, who is 36 years old, scored 12 runs off of 21 balls in his last ODI at home earlier this month. Sri Lanka lost to Afghanistan by six wickets at Hambantota in the first game of a three-match series.
The right-handed batter was taken out of the next two games, both of which were won by the home team.
Sri Lanka’s first qualifying match for the ODI World Cup in 2023 is on June 19 in Bulawayo against the United Arab Emirates. After that, Sri Lanka will play Oman, Ireland, and Scotland.
