Reeza Hendricks’ 108 underpinned a solid display by the Highveld Lions as they piled up 308-4 against the Knights in Potchefstroom.
Once again the bat dominated as 595 runs were scored for the loss of nine wickets in the three Sunfoil matches across the country.
If the early loss of Stephen Cook (14) gave the Knights’ bowlers some hope, it was quickly doused by a stand of 118 by Omphela Ramela (65) and Hendricks, who scored his 108 off 200 balls, with 21 fours.
Rassie van der Dussen (62) picked up the baton when Hendricks departed, to take the Lions to 308-4 at the end of the day with the help of Nicky van den Bergh (34).
It was hard work for the Titans against the Dolphins in Pietermaritzburg. Their young captain, Aiden Markram, maintained his excellent run of form, contributing 67 in a stand of 130 with Dean Elgar as they got off to a great start.
Bad light cut 20 overs off the day, and while the Titans are sitting solidly, they scored at just 2.78 an over. With bonus points being so important, they will need to up the tempo. Elgar was unbeaten on 88, having put on 62 with Victory Mahlangu (41) to end the day on 205-2 off 73 overs.
The Cobras had a frustrating day against the Warriors at Newlands. After a delayed start because of rain, they made quick inroads into the visitors’ lineup after sending them into bat under grey skies. Michael Cohen, the 19-year-old left-arm seamer, dismissed the openers Ed Moore (19) and Gionne Koopman (15) either side of Lizaard Williams’ removal of Colin Ackermann (9) to leave the Warriors at 59-3.
Yaseen Vallie (26) and Jerry Nqolo(12) dug in until rain and bad light ended the day early on 82-3.
