Trinbago Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine became the first cricketer to receive a red card during a Caribbean Premier League match on Sunday.
Sunil Narine, a veteran spin bowler, was the first player to get a red card under the new rule. This made him the centre of attention. The event happened on Sunday at Warner Park in Basseterre, during the 12th match of the tournament between St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKN) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).
On the day before the Patriots’ last over, there was a turning point. Zahid Bassarath, the on-field umpire, showed the Trinbago Knight Riders a red card to show that they were breaking the rules for the slow-over rate. In each of their last three overs, the Knight Riders had fallen behind the required over rate, which was bad.
Because of the penalty, the Knight Riders only had ten players left for the last over. The fact that they only had two fielders outside the 30-yard circle made things even worse. Narine was taken off the pitch because he had already made four overs.
